J&Okay: 6 militants amongst 9 killed in Valley

The household of the civilian, Rayees Ahmad, killed through the pre-dawn encounter, alleged that the Military and Particular Operation Group of the J&Okay Police took Rayees and his brother Younis as human shields to conduct searches within the space — an allegation denied by the police and Military.

Six militants, together with three from the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), two troopers and a civilian have been killed in two separate encounters in South Kashmir’s Pulwama and Shopian districts on Thursday.

A J&Okay Police spokesperson stated, “On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched today morning by police and security forces at Dalipora area (Pulwama).” Militants opened fireplace through the operation, triggering an encounter, the spokesperson stated.

In accordance with the police, the militants, who have been hiding, fired indiscriminately when safety forces have been evacuating civilians from the neighbourhood, leaving a civilian and an Military man lifeless.

The slain soldier was recognized as Sepoy Sandeep from Haryana.

In accordance with the members of the family, Rayees, Younis and their father Jalaluddin Dar have been taken by the forces to conduct the search operation whereas the household was preparing for the pre-dawn meal throughout Ramzan. “They climbed our walls to enter our house. Then they (security forces) took us with them, but my father was released after sometime. The Army took us to search nearby houses in the village. My brother (Rayees) was also present with me but suddenly there was firing and I was hit (by bullet),” Younis advised The Indian Specific.

A police spokesperson stated Rayees died when “hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately” as safety forces “were evacuating civilians from the neighbourhood around the target house”. One other officer stated that Rayees was killed in “cross-firing”.
